As my mind awakened

aches shivered through me

Eyes still closed, a battle

waged within

Dressed and showered

I stepped out the front door,

starting at my normal pace

Over the length of the half-mile,

I slowed

Approaching an intersection, I pushed forward

at the pace

of the cars

waiting

for the red light

to turn green
